ALMOST the perfect weekend for Theo but sadly he wasnt able to get the silverware he probably deserved, but nonetheless we are still very proud of Theo Micouris...
Saturday marked Theo's 9th Birthday, and he celebrated with school friends at Daytona MK. He was due to test at PFI in the afternoon, but Theo was tired and really not feeling well after a fantastic week-long school trip on the Isle of Wight. But on Sunday morning Theo was very keen on going to race in the ProKart series at PFI, despite not being 100%. And boy did he shine!
He qualified in 2nd, just 0.07s behind pole man (his Global Karting team mate Lucas Ellingham)
In Heat 1, starting from 2nd, he got a bad start and dropped to 4th with a large gap to 1st, but he worked his way back and managed to get into 1st place, only to make a small mistake in the chicane on the last lap which Lucas capitalised on and dropped Theo to 2nd (by only 0.06s!). Still, he managed to get fastest lap of the race by 0.01s.
In Heat 2, starting from 2nd, he made a good start (for once) and battled all race long with Lucas and Harry, at one point getting into 1st. After such a very close and tough battle, though, he ended up finishing 3rd.
However, this is where it had to end unfortunately. He wasn't 100% from the start of the day, but with each session he was feeling more and more ill and tired. He was torn between carrying on and stopping, knowing that a podium was easily on the cards considering that no one was near the top 3 in qualifying and both heats, but in the end we had to call it a day. frown emoticon
Still, drawing all the positives from it, we know that Theo had the pace to fight for a win if he was able to continue. And he still got fastest lap of the day! He really has taken to his new Zip Eagle kart, regardless of what engine he has on it (both GX160s and GX200s). The Global Karting-prepared ZipKart is a very fast combo in Theo's hands!
Lucas went on to win the event. Here is a nice video of the two Global Karting boys going head to head in Heat 1!
